HOW DOES CONSIGNMENT WORK?

  1. Inspect and prepare your clothing and/or gear for sale (instructions below).
  2. Bring your items in store for appraisal. No appointment required, but please be patient if you arrive during busy store hours. If you have a large number of items, feel free to call ahead and make sure we can give you our focussed attention. Together we discuss the age, condition, and market demand for your goods; and we will decide on a fair asking price for each item. If you are a new consignee, we will set up an account in our system and go over our contract.
  3. Once priced and tagged, your item(s) move onto our sales floor, and our staff do their best to find the perfect buyer for your items. If items don’t sell, their prices may be marked down (per the the sales agreement of the contract.) If you don’t want an item lowered When an item of yours sells, your account is credited with your percentage of the selling price.
  4. It is up to you to check the status of your account. We don’t call or email when items sell. Call or stop by the shop to find out how much money you have
  5. earned!. Small amounts owing will be paid out in cash or store credit. Large amounts are paid out by check or store credit.
  6. We try to help you choose the right price at the right time to sell your goods, but sometimes they just don’t sell. If your item doesn’t sell within 90 days, please come collect it. After 90 days, unclaimed and unsold items become the property of Switching Gear and may be donated or discarded. We don’t want this to happen, so please keep track of your consignment dates and do not abandon your goods. We do not have the ability to notify consignees as these dates approach, so please mark your calendars and keep track your items.

HOW TO INSPECT AND PREPARE GEAR?

  1. CHECK IT - Inspect your items for rips, stains, missing parts, expiration dates, or damage that affects functionality. Make sure pockets and compartments are empty, zippers work, and not buttons or fasteners are gone. We will only accept items that are still readily usable. If you are unsure, give us a call.
  2. CLEAN IT - To increase the chances of selling your items, please ensure they areas clean as possible, free of stains, dirt, dust, and odour. We do not watch or fix your gear and cannot accept dirty items.
  3. KNOW IT - To get the best value for your items, gather as much information on it as possible, for instances, know the model or product name, age, important specs, and original retail price. This will speed up the appraisal process.
  4. TIME IT - Gear sells best in the season that it is meant for, so we generally only accept in-season gear.
  5. BRING IT IN - If you aren’t sure whether your item is saleable, or what it might be worth, just bring it in for a no-obligation appraisal. If your item is quite large (kayaks, canoes, bikes, etc). Please feel free to call us to make sure we have room to accommodate it.
